While My Guitar Gently Weeps

What do Frank Zappa, Jack White, and Edgar Allan Poe have in common?  Not only do these men have a taste for the strange and wonderful, but they are all poets.  As we attended the NJAIS Teacher's Conference at the Liberty Science Center, I couldn't help but think of how much poetry and the guitar have influenced the world.  The Liberty Science Center has a wonderful guitar exhibit, and if you find yourself in Jersey City, you should definitely visit.  If you can't see the show in person, you can check out the highlights of the exhibit here.

Happy Lief Erikson Day!

October 9th is known as Lief Erickson day.  Interestingly, this date doesn't have any actual significance to Leif Erikson.  It marks the day that the ship Restauration landed on American shores to mark the Nordic organized immigration movement that started in 1825.  Lief Erickson, though, was though to be the first European to set foot on North American shores, not Christopher Columbus.  So please enjoy this video in his honor.

iEARN Project

If your teens haven't yet told you about this, I want to take this opportunity to explain about a project we are working on with an organization called iEARN.  This is a global collective of teachers and students that collaborate on projects in all academic areas.  From now until January we will be completing a project called Places and Perspectives.  The objective of this circle is not only to learn about our area of the world and share it with others, but to learn about their countries and cultures as well.  We are participating with schools in New York State, Pittsburg,PA, Tennessee, Moldova, Russia, Cameroon, and two schools in Morocco.  If you are interested in following the progress of our project, please click here

The B-17

Besides being the most famous World War II bomber, the B-17 is the inspiration for Boonton High School's namesake, the Bombers.  A former BHS graduate now finds himself in the cockpit of a B-17 and wanted to share his love of flying with his Alma mater.  CHS and BHS students and staff enjoyed a surprise flight over the field  on Friday, September 19.  To experience the surprise for yourself, please enjoy the video below.

I hope you had an enjoyable summer.  I know I did.  Most of my time was spent keeping up with Ford.  He is learning and growing so fast.  He is always looking for new things he can master.

I know you feel the same as we enter a new school year.  One new element of class this year will be the regular use of this web page.  It will be used primarily to summarize what we have been covering in class on a bi-weekly basis.  However, it might be used for assignments in class or for homework.  Be sure to check the page often to see what we have been up to.
