Research 10K

October 28-November 14
Upon completing our song or poetry citation, we have begun a cross-curricular project to practice our research skills in a subject area.  We are working on a science project researching a cycle.  We will be using the text book and an internet source to guide our research.  Noodletools.com will be used to organize our thoughts and paraphrase our material.  A final presentation will be prepared.

October 14-24
We finished our article on how to use signal phrases and parenthetical citations when using a direct quotation.  To practice this skill, we looked for lines of poetry or song lyrics that inspired us.  We will be writing paragraphs using these quotes and citing them properly.

September 29-October 10
We finished citing sources from books and learned how to properly cite a website.  We also learned how to properly cite information wither by quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing.  We will now learn how to create an in-text citation.

September 15-26
We reviewed what makes a website credible and spent some time with our website credibility checklist.  This checklist gave us a set of criteria to determine whether or not we could trust the information found  online.  We also took a trip to the Boonton library and found books related to Code Talker, our summer reading novel.  Back in the classroom, we learned how to create a citation on Noodletools.com and will continue to cite sources next week.

September 3-10

Research is an important skill.  We discussed that it means you must look for information, or find it, over and over again until you find what is most pertinent to your argument.  In order to find useful, and trustworthy, information, your sources must be credible.  We have been taking notes on what makes a web site credible, and will practice testing out some web sites for credibility next week.
