Writing 10O

October 28-November 14
We have been working on our point of view and verb tense exercises.  Most members of the class have completed this review and have started working on the two types of detail sentences.  In addition to our strategy work, we have been planning our projects for the iEARN assignment.  We have been working to find our favorite weird New Jersey story or come up with must see locations near our area.  Of course, being so close to NYC influences our must see attractions.

October 7-24
We have completed our review of topic sentences and moved on to details.  We covered the two types of detail sentences and the importance of transitions, point of view, and verb tense.  We have completed our exercises on transitions and have moved to point of view and verbs.

September 29-October 6
We have discussed some possible project ideas for our iEARN project.  We also began our work in the Paragraph Writing Strategy.  We reviewed the definition of a topic sentence and completed the three exercises related to writing general, cluing, and specific topic sentences.  This is in addition to our continued work on the SAT vocabulary

September 15-26
We have begun our work on the LINCs vocabulary strategy using Vocabulary Cartoons as our text book.  We have taken two quizzes on the words from lesson one and have even practiced the LAG study card technique and a vocabulary elimination game.  In addition to the vocabulary, we have written essays on the type of artist we want to be and begun thinking about whether or not art is useless for our next essay topic.  We have also reviewed the three types of topic sentences and will begin writing those next week.

September 3-12

After reviewing the structure of class and the homework routine, we took our pretests on paragraph writing.  This initial writing assignment will act as a goal setting gauge for our work in the paragraph writing strategy. Some members of the class spent time writing poetry about themselves, and others opted to begin outlining their first essay assignment, the draft of which is due on Sept. 16 and the final copy on the 23rd.
