October 28-November 14
We have been working on our detail sentence review and even moved on to clinchers. Some members of the class have completed all of this review and have begun writing their first type of whole paragraph, the narrative. In addition to our strategy work, we have been working on our iEARN projects. We have been gathering information about our favorite weird stories or laws. We will be finding our why Canadians keep their milk in a bag and whether or not Clinton Road is the most haunted road in America.
October 7-24
We have completed our review of topic sentences and moved on to details. We covered the two types of detail sentences and the importance of transitions, point of view, and verb tense. We have completed our exercises on transitions and have moved forward with our detail sentence review.
September 29-October 6
After finishing our work on Clear Thinking and Writing, we began the Paragraph Writing Strategy. We reviewed the definition of a topic sentence and completed the three exercises related to writing general, cluing, and specific topic sentences. This is in addition to our continued work on the SAT vocabulary.
September 15-26
We have begun our work on the LINCs vocabulary strategy using Vocabulary Cartoons as our text book. We have taken two quizzes on the words from lesson one and have found ways to use the vocab words in our writing during the week. In addition to the vocabulary, we have written essays on the type of artist we want to be and begun thinking about whether or not art is useless for our next essay topic. We have also reviewed the Clear Thinking and Writing approach to crafting effective main idea/topic sentences and supporting relevant details.
September 3-12
After reviewing the structure of class and homework expectations, we completed pretests to gauge our paragraph writing skills. We then began reviewing main ideas, details, and what makes an effective argument. This knowledge will help guide us as we begin the paragraph writing strategy.
